This past weekend, FAST Xperience athletes represented their respective high schools and competed in the 2011 High School Regional Championships. FAST swimmers in the meet included Sydney Bratcher, Sierra DeMers, Anna Hawkins, Braden Peyton, Alexandra Silvernail, Jacob Silvernail and Molly Vest. Every swimmer had a least one best time in their two allowed events. Point scorers were Sydney Bratcher finishing 9th in the 200 Free and 8th in the 500 Free with best times in both events. Anna Hawkins (the "Sprint Monster") controlled the consolation final of the 50 Free from start to finish for 7th place and a personal best time. Anna also finished 10th in the 100 Free. Braden Peyton swam personal best times and placed 10th in the 50 Free and 6th in the 100 Free. All three of these swimmers contributed to scoring relays and Sydney Bratcher and Anna Hawkins will represent Western Hills on both freestyle relays at the upcoming Kentucky High School Championships. FAST is very proud of all our high school competitors and best of luck to those swimming at State.
The FAST Xperience competed at the 2011 Triton Super Sprint on January 30. This exciting meet was great for our twelve and under swimmers and the coaching staff was very encouraged by the swims and results. This was the first time some of our swimmers got to swim in a first-class facility. Despite part of the University of Louisville natatorium being closed and under construction in preparation for the upcoming Big East Championships, the meet was well run and everyone survived a long day. Our team performed well and many swam best times. Scoring points for FAST were Mattie Brock (7) with 7th place finishes in the 50 Back and 50 Breast. First time FAST swimmer Canyon Thomas (6) scored a 6th place finish in the 25 Free. Garrett Brock, Lauren Kiser and Alexandra Silvernail swam best times in every event. Garrett just missed a Championship standard in the 50 Breast and we expect him to get that cut in the next meet. Also, another first time competitor, Aidan Adkins, had a confusing start to his first ever event with numerous whistles and fake starts, however, Aidan kept cool (unlike Coach Matt) and swam a nice 50 Back. Many thanks to all the parents and families for their support at this meet. Additional thanks to assistant coaches, Renee Thomas and Tony Silvernail, for keeping our team organized on the bench and ready for their events. Look for upcoming information on our next meet, the SUSS Winter Wipe-Out February 26 & 27. Greetings Swimmers and Parents. Just a reminder that the Special Olympics Polar Plunge is next Saturday February 19. FAST Frankfort Area Swim Team is now a registered team. Go onto the SOKY site and register as a member of FAST Frankfort Area Swim Team. The coaching staff will cancel Saturday morning practice if we get a number of Plungers. I have done this event several times and it is always fun, always worthwhile and always cold. Be prepared. We hope to see as many FAST swimmers and parents take The Plunge. You need to raise $75.00 to Plunge and you will receive a very nice long sleeve t-shirt. Ask your neighbors, ask your friends, ask your relatives. Check out the SOKY site for specific information or give me a call. Let's help support Kentucky Special Olympics and have fun in the process. Thanks and Swim FAST. Welcome to the new FAST Swim Team Website and my first blog. As everyone knows, the Special Olympics Polar Plunge is Saturday February 19 at the Texas Roadhouse in Lexington. The coaching staff is willing to cancel practice that Saturday if our team turns out to particpate in the Plunge. Parents are also encouraged to participate. Last year was a fun time and our team raised almost $1,000 for the Special Olympics. Go on line, use the internet and download a donation form. We will participate as a "Team" so state your team as "FAST Frankfort Area Swim Team". We hope to see everyone at this team building event. If anyone has any questions, please contact me. Thanks.
