          Dave Montgomery - FAST Founder

          Former FAST Head Coach Dave Montgomery founded the Greater Frankfort Swim Association in 1965 which later became FAST.   He passed away on February 19, 2011 at the age of 66.   FAST swim team members past and present are thankful for the time we had with Coach Dave and know he is swimming in a better place now.  Thank you Coach Dave for without you we could not Swim FAST.

          His Obituary:
          Elder David Lee Montgomery, 66, Frankfort, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington. He was a native of Pittsburgh, PA and the son of the late Rufus and Lillie Dreher Montgomery. He was a graduate of Kentucky State University with a B.S. in physical education and health. He was one of the first faculty members to serve at the Whitney M. Young Job Corps Center in Simpsonville when that facility first opened in 1972. He was a teacher in the Franklin County School System for several years, where he taught physical education, science and mathematics. He was the assistant coach of the Women’s Swim Team at the University of Kentucky. He also was the founder and coach of the Frankfort Area Swim Team (FAST), consisting of teams from Frankfort, Lexington, Georgetown, Versailles and other areas. He retired from the Department of Corrections, where he had worked at the Blackburn Correctional Complex in Lexington. He was a devoted member, elder, deacon and trustee of the Bethesda Temple Church of the Living God in Frankfort.

          In addition to his parents, one sister, Earnestine Loretta Heywood and two brothers, Rev. Thomas Montgomery and Robert Montgomery, preceded him in death.

          Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Linda Wilkins Montgomery of Frankfort; one daughter, Faith Montgomery of Frankfort; one son, Jason Douglas Montgomery of Harlem, New York; four sisters, Betty (Edward) Terry, Helen Gross and Maxine Engram of Pittsburgh, PA and Sharon Montgomery of Charlotte, NC; one grandson, Jalin Malik Montgomery-Jones; two adopted sons, Patrick Heywood of Pittsburgh and Dion Sims of NJ, two newly-adopted grandchildren, Dionne and Jacon Hobbs of Frankfort and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

          Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bethesda Temple Church of the Living God, 508 Glenns Creek Road in Frankfort with visitation after 9 a.m. Bishop Robert Manley, Jr. will deliver the eulogy. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Deacon Harry Skinner, Lawrence Banks, Dr. John Sheppard, Vincent Fields, Jerry Roberts, William Graham, Megan Zerheusen, Chuck Oliver, John Brucato and Roger Khert. Active pallbearers will be Peter Carey, David Oliver, Brian Pippin, Patrick Heywood, Neal Satterly, Sharrif Skinner, Dion Sims and Robert Montgomery, Jr. Burial will follow at Frankfort Cemetery.
